Glass Cat Figurines
Our second favorite figurine is the glass cat figurine.
So why is the hand blown glass cat a favorite right behind the glass elephant? I believe it goes back over 6,000 years. Some of the mystery surrounding cats is a mixture of myth and truth. Why is it that women love cats more than men? (Five times as many women own cats than men. This is true all the way back to Egyptian times when the domesticated cat was a favorite pet of Egyptian women and my guess is cats got rid of rats and mice and other pest) Does a cat really have 9 lives? (our glass cats have more than 9 lives, but this myth probably came from the fact that a cat can survive falls from up to 4 stories and most animals could not survive that kind of fall)
Is it true that a cat can smother a baby while it sleeps? (this myth probably comes from the fact that cats can smell milk on a baby's breath but there is no evidence that a cat has ever smothered a human baby) As you can see here, I start with 2 glass rods when I begin any blown glass piece. When I begin the glass cat, I start with a small ball and begin shaping the body first. Other people prefer to start with the head and ears, but I want my glass cat figurine to lay evenly for display.
